Chris Cowling is a full-time visual designer and educator based in Rancho Cucamonga, California. He has built a reputation for delivering powerful, innovative visual designs that bring music and movement together with clarity and impact.
Chris designs for elite ensembles across the United States, including programs in California, Texas, Iowa, Mississippi, Florida, Washington, Pennsylvania, and Illinois. His work is recognized for its attention to detail, strong coordination between musical and visual elements, and a clear sense of pacing and effect.
A proud alum of Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps (2001–2005), Chris went on to serve as Visual Caption Manager (2010–2012) after previously teaching as a Visual Tech (2007–2009). He later joined the Santa Clara Vanguard visual staff from 2016–2021, contributing to one of the most respected design/instructional teams in the activity.
In the winter season, Chris has played a key role in the success of Pulse Percussion, serving on the Board of Directors (2014–2016) and as a member of the Visual Staff (2017–2022, 2025–present). His work has helped elevate Pulse to the forefront of the indoor percussion world.
Since 2023, Chris has been part of the visual team at Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, bringing his creativity, professionalism, and depth of experience to one of the activity’s most iconic programs.
